She's always played it safe... College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule-avoid risk at all costs. She's cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she's willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who's determined to sweep her off her feet? He's always played around... Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it's his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge-the hottie he's lusting over just happens to be Ace's childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it's time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she's not sleeping with the enemy.

JockBlocked by Jen Frederick Review

Jockblocked is the second novel in the Gridiron series by USA Today bestselling author Jen Frederick. The story follows Lucy Washington, a college junior who works at a coffee shop, spends a great deal of time practicing for a mock trial, and steadfastly avoids jocks- especially the football players. Matthew Iverson is a star football player who plays defense, but when he meets Lucy studying in the coffee shop, he immediately moves into the position of offense. As Lucy tries to respect the wishes of her best friend Ace- the football team’s quarterback- and avoid his teammates, all while trying to manage her health issues and mock trial team, Matthew-or Matty-finds himself in the unique position of trying to pursue his interest in Lucy while keeping his own team together- by trying to convince Ace to leave his quarterback position.

From the moment Lucy and Matty meet in the coffeeshop, the metaphorical sparks fly and the chemistry between the two immediately pulled me into the story until I thought, “Oh yeah, this is going to be good.” I have read stories where the chemistry between the characters starts off strong, and then half-way through something changes and I have to struggle to detect the sizzling attraction between the two that the first half of the book promised.

That was NOT the case with Jockblocked.

Lucy was a compelling character in the sense that she was very believable- a mix of flawed and intriguing characteristics and morals. Lucy was adamant and consistent in her defense of her friends- she did not allow people to run rough-shod over her feelings, and she certainly did not say or do something that went against her firm beliefs in how a friend should behave or act. I respected Lucy for these beliefs, and respected Matty for understanding them as well. With that being said, Lucy realizing that what she had previously thought were strengths in her character but were well-rooted fears keeping her from taking chances, was what truly won her over for me.

Now, Matty Iverson…where do I begin with him? I have always been a fan of strong, alpha heroes who grin frequently, have a wicked sense of humor, dirty mouth, and are respectful and persistent. Matty was all of that and more! He won me over with that foot rub…seriously, I need that in my life. His character not only adapts to the health needs of the woman he desires in every sense of the word (what guy is that willing to go out to eat at a vegan restaurant?), but he demands that his friends respect her, and even sacrifices something he cares about to ensure her safety and well-being. Matty…you may have just won your spot on my next book boyfriends post.

Jockblocked was a humorous and sizzling mix of intense chemistry, laugh-out-loud moments, compelling characters, and non-stop fun! I literally could not put this book down. While I initially read it on my kindle, I loved it SO much that I am ordering the paperback version and the rest in the series along with it!

Five stars for Jockblocked!

A Park Avenue princess…

My story starts with a plunge into the cold water of Manhattan’s harbor. A strong hand hauls me back onto the deck of the luxury yacht. Christopher was supposed to be my enemy, the son of my mother’s latest husband. Instead he protects me with fierce determination when I need him most.

This tale begins with a fall, but it doesn’t end there.
Because another man wants me.

Sutton wants to consume me with a passion more feral than kind. In the lush emotional wilderness I’m not sure I want Christopher to save me this time…

Or if there will be anything left if he tries.

SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST is a book about finding your soul’s desire, even if the search leads you places you never expect. A woman torn between two men. An impossible choice. And a war fought on the most dangerous battlefield–the heart.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

My body heats at the words, at the remembered pleasure of Sutton’s mouth on my sex. Christopher looks down at me, as if he can feel the heat emanating from between my legs. His expression turns stark, as if he’s in pain. That’s only fair, because I’m in pain too.

“You deserve better than that,” Christopher says, but there’s no way to pretend he’s talking about Sutton. He’s talking about himself and we both know it.

“He gives me what I want, which is something you might try next time you like a girl.”

“It wasn’t that,” he says, harsh again.

“No?” I step forward and place a hand on his chest, feeling the way his heart beats strong and fast. He may want to be unaffected by me, but he isn’t. I tilt my face up toward him. “You didn’t imagine me naked in the cabin later?”

He sucks in a breath. “You were too young then.”

My words come out as a whisper. “What about now? Will you do what Sutton said—imagine me in this dress when you go home after this?”

“It’s not fucking decent,” he says, even though the silk covers every part of me. It’s a perfectly respectable dress, when it’s not hitched up around my waist.

“You can thank Sutton for this,” I say, because it’s true. He’s the only reason I lean forward and place my lips against Christopher’s, touching them in some terrible attempt to show him what he gave up, to prove to myself that I don’t care about either of them.

Christopher sucks in a breath. For a second I think he’s going to pull away. He stiffens and grasps my hair with his fist. Easy enough for him to stop the kiss. Instead he dips my head back and deepens it, exploring my mouth with his teeth, his tongue. Opening me wider until I whimper. Pulling me close until I can feel how hard he is beneath his slacks.

His other hand fists in the gauze of my dress, and I realize he’s holding me with both hands clenched—one in my hair and one in my clothes. I don’t know whether he’s doing it so he doesn’t have to touch me or because it’s a way to control me without bruising me. He uses both hands to tug me closer; I’m pressed so tightly I can’t imagine getting away.

Where Sutton had been raw sensuality and playfulness, Christopher is pure determination. He kisses me like he’s a conquering army, like I’m made of gold he has to grasp—or lose forever.

FromNew York TimesBestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes SMART TASS, a new Romantic Comedy.

He's the hot college quarterback all the girls want. She's the smart girl he loves to pick on.And now that they're all grown up, things are about to get geekin' ugly.

My name is Tass. I'm smart, I'm driven, and I am determined not to let prankster Hunter Johnson continue raining on my parade. When we were little, he'd pull my hair and call me names. When we were teenagers, he'd throw food and tease me for being a flat-chested virgin.

But now that we've ended up at the same college, he's out of his hot head if he thinks he can keep messing with my life. It's like he's fixated on me or something. Well, guess what, Mr. Amazefootball? I'm not that geeky little girl anymore and you do not screw with a smart woman.

So what's my plan?

It's definitely wild, and he's about to find out.

Review of Smart Tass

Smart Tass is the first novel in the OHellNo series by New York Times bestselling author Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. The story follows Tass, a young college student who throws herself into her academics, and Hunter Johnson, a football player with a long history of driving Tass nuts. With Tass wishing to become part of a sorority that only accepts those of high academic standing with large aspirations, and Hunter wishing to become part of a fraternity for athletes with dubious morals and very little regard for females, they both find that they can help one another.

After an uncomfortable and highly embarrassing encounter in the library with Hunter, Tass finds herself facing the heated accusations by her potential sorority and on the brink of being rejected as a pledge. To redeem herself, Tass is asked to make Hunter fall in love with her in less than a week and then publicly humiliate Hunter by breaking up with him. At the end of the epically disastrous encounter with Tass in the Library, Hunter is asked by his fraternity to redeem himself by taking her virginity so that he can score enough points to be accepted as a pledge. With both of their positions on the line, Tass and Hunter approach each other with a deal…if Hunter pretends to be in love with Tass and allow her to break up with him publicly, then Tass will pretend to have slept with Hunter so he can gain enough points to join his fraternity.

What follows is a humorous and light-hearted plot that is riddled with comedic moments, sizzling chemistry, and engaging dialogue. From the awkward encounter in the library, to football practice, parties, and a getaway cabin, Smart Tass delivers a fast-paced and pleasing plot.  I was pleasantly surprised by some of the characters and themes in the story- I loved that Tass was able to see that not all cheerleaders are “air heads” and that all jocks are “dumb”, and that just because someone may have an impressive IQ does not mean they are a decent person. In addition, both characters suffered from a serious bout of “miscommunication” which led to a whole lot of hurt feelings which could have quickly been solved by talking to one another. So, this story pretty much backs up the idea that you shouldn’t always jump to conclusions- things may not always be what they seem!

Smart Tass was a delightful and amusing romantic comedy about misperceptions, forgiving others, love, and finding yourself.
